Forward-looking point-of-sale systems can do much more than simply register items and payments in a POS network. Multimedia applications offer retailers an extended range of services: for instance, entire advertising displays can be operated from powerful POS systems in dual display configurations. In its Pentium 4-based BEETLE, Wincor Nixdorf has developed a system in this performance class. The BEETLE /M-II has been optimized in terms of processor technology, interfaces, support for scales and serviceability. Although it has a compact design the BEETLE /M-II is very flexible and expandable, and supports a wide range of drive and interface options. The system features proven PC technology based on Intel Pentium 4 processors in conjunction with the Intel 845 GV chipset. During its development we made a point of only using components that will be available in the long term in order to be able to deliver products in the long term. Various standard PC and retail-specific powered interfaces - both USB and RS232 - are available to connect peripherals such as scanners, POS printers, touchscreens, customer displays and the like. Two USB ports are accessible from the front to provide even more convenience. The integrated scales technology makes it possible to display both weight and price/item information on just one display for the first time.
